In this hands-on workshop, we will work with the TC2 Jacquard loom, a digital version of the classic Jacquard loom invented by M. Jacquard in Lyon. We will explore various weaving techniques, including twill, satin, and plain weave, and experiment with translating images into textiles.
Depending on each participant’s level, we will cover everything from warp preparation and loom setup to weaving on the TC2.
Course Objectives:
- Learn the operation and use of the TC2 Jacquard loom
- Prepare and set up the warp
- Experiment with textile structures and develop a final woven piece
- Understand key weaving techniques (twill, satin, plain weave)
- Explore the translation of images into fabric
Requirements:
- Notebook with graph paper
- Personal laptop with Adobe Photoshop installed

Bérénice Gaca Courtin
Bérénice Gaca Courtin is a Paris-born multidisciplinary artist working between Geneva and Paris. With an MA in Contemporary Applied Arts from Massana School (Barcelona) and HEAD (Geneva), she specializes in textile arts, audiovisual media, and performance.
She divides her time between counting threads, singing at her loom, and telling jokes. She teaches knitting, frame loom weaving, and Jacquard weaving while investigating themes of hidden codes and resistance in her work.
For four years, she has researched the history of her grandfather, Kazimierz Gaca, a Polish resistance fighter during WWII who worked with the ENIGMA machine. Her artistic practice draws parallels between digital Jacquard weaving and cryptography, weaving messages through coded patterns.
Her work has been showcased at:
- La Alternativa Film Festival (CCCB, Barcelona)
- Centre Pompidou-Metz (Capsule exhibition, 2023)
- Octobre Numérique Festival (Arles, 2023)
- Milan Design Week (April 2024)
- Galerie Fabienne Levy (Lausanne) – Group exhibition
Currently, she is developing a project that merges traditional weaving techniques with new digital technologies.
This workshop is perfect for designers, textile artists, and creative minds eager to explore the intersection of digital technology and textile craftsmanship.
