The message of the project
Webs of Power is a collaborative effort between Berenice Courtin, a French textile designer and artist, and the Basque Biodesign Center. Its aim is to craft a range of textile prototypes for a brand, delving into subversive textiles capable of concealing messages by treating weaving as the root of coding.
Berenice will engage with customers to translate their messages from text to a design, which is then transformed into textile material. Customers receive a digital encrypted image of their personalized text, realized in fabric. The text is translated into an invented alphabet generated by small pixel images. Customers, through their interaction with this coding language, can explore various product possibilities, complete with 3D renders, that they can subsequently purchase
By bridging the gap between tradition and innovation through craft and design, the project endeavors to create a novel experience for textile and fashion consumers. The ultimate goal is to bring this textile project to market, leveraging cutting-edge equipment like the TC2 Loom, thereby establishing a direct connection between artistic pieces and customers.
The idea behind the project
The project concept has been in development for several years, and initial prototypes were created, most recently during the Fabricademy program. The 3D models produced using Blender have played a crucial role in shaping the brand's image and the future appearance of the website.
As the project progresses, an efficient online interface will be developed to showcase European production and rekindle a historical focus on material quality. Incorporating local waste and materials will add depth and identity to the prototyping and experimentation processes. The project's ultimate aim is to provide customers with an intimate experience, from the choice of materials to the understanding of the product's creation process.
